Now the farm is getting even better with an antique Allan Herschell carousel built during the depression era. The bright hand-painted horses are hand-carved and constructed out of wood and cast aluminum.
The carousel will open to the public on Sunday, May 15, 2011, and the public is invited to a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon, followed by an ice cream social!
The 20-horse antique carousel, built in 1918, has been a favorite for years, serving children at Lee District Park since 1975. The Fairfax County Park Authority features three similar carousels at other parks and a fully-accessible carousel at Clemyjontri Park in McLean.
