


A dance pavillion was built and the local young people enjoyed many good times with the soldiers. At one time in the 1920's, a marine coaling station was proposed. The island was touted as "The Atlantic City of the South" Bath houses were constructed on the south side of the island. A large boardwalk to, extend several miles was proposed.
I see a rail line to Alabama Point which was sometimes called 'Granite'. For a few years it appears the line extended to Cedar Point. --correct..it went as far as Cedar Point..
The Sand Dunes Casino, located on a mile of Gulf Surf beach, was completely furnished, including a long fishing pier into the Gulf. It was given to the Park and Beach Board by the Moibile Chamber of Commerce for public use.
